FAQ

General FAQ.

What Diagnosis Does Our Team Treat?

Behavior analysts do not treat diagnoses, they target behavioral deficits and excesses. Problem behaviors are treated based upon their function and are systematically reduced while more adaptive replacement behaviors are promoted. However, behavioral therapy is an evidence-based treatment for patients with a wide range of cognitive, behavioral and developmental disorders.

How Quickly Will I See Results?

It depends on the environment, behaviors, and resources available to support the child and consistently implement the prescribed interventions. Many children who present with somewhat typical problem behaviors exhibit measurable improvements within a few sessions. Children with significant problem behaviors or impairments will require more support and skill acquisition training to show consistent improvements. However, the goal will always be to implement treatment that results in consistent and measurable improvement in the child’s social, emotional, and adaptive functioning.

We provide services at any location in which the skills are needed or problem behaviors occur. In addition, our team will provide services at any reasonable time necessary for effective treatment. This includes early mornings and late nights.

I Have Heard of ABA Before, But I Thought It Was Only Used for Children With Autism. Can Behavioral Therapy Really Help My Child?

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the scientific process of analyzing and systematically altering environmental contingencies to increase skills and decrease problem behaviors. It is much more comprehensive than just a treatment technique or intervention, and is often discussed or presented in a misleading way in the popular media. Behavior analytic principles have been utilized to assess and treat almost every imaginable human behavior deficit and excess. The science of ABA utilizes the most effective and evidence-based methods to change behaviors in a safe, efficient, and developmentally appropriate manner.

My Child Had Behavioral Services Before and I Didn't Like It Because It Seemed Punitive and Monotonous. Is There A Way to Receive Behavioral Treatment Without Making My Child Into a Robot?

Great behavioral treatment should primarily focus on teaching, shaping, and generalizing effective skills in the environments the child will interact with most. The therapy should be generally engaging and fast-paced and utilize the child’s natural interests. It should also target skills that will be reinforced in the natural environment. When children have adequate skills that help them to effectively meet and communicate their wants and needs, they are more likely to exhibit them on a consistent basis and are less likely to rely upon maladaptive behaviors. Great behavioral treatment should be fun and enjoyable while simultaneously increasing adaptive and functional skills and decreasing problem behaviors.

How Do I Know That I Can Trust the Behavior Technicians Working With My Child?

We understand how much trust it takes to leave your child in the care of another person, and to welcome a therapist into your own home to work with your child. You should never have to experience any hesitation or apprehension regarding the competency of your child’s therapist.

INSURANCE/BILLING FAQ

Currently, we only accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna insurance. At this time we are not able to offer services through other insurance companies due to a lack of adequate reimbursement for our staff. We are constantly working and negotiating with the major insurance companies to work out an acceptable rate for all parties so that we can offer affordable services to all families.
